Who am I?

I live in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa with my wife and youngest son. We are recently arrived in Liberia where we are serving as missionaries with Evangelical Church Missions working under the Liberia Evangelical Mission. For most of the last thirty years we have served under ECM in Bolivia, South America. We are the happy parents of four children and the proud grandparents of two grandchildren.

Seminar Summary

This past Saturday and Sunday the national church held a regional seminar in Cochabamba for the Cochabamba and Santa Cruz Districts. I was only able to attend the Saturday sessions due to conflicts in my schedule but I am glad that I was there (even if the lunch of pork, corn and more corn didn't set too well). Eighteen of us Cruzeños (Santa Cruz persons) were there along with about an equal number of Cochabambinos (Cochabamba persons) plus the organizing group from La Paz. The day began with an overview of the message and teaching of the book of Daniel. The speaker drew a number of parallels between Daniel's situation and ours. Just as the king of Babylon was a follower of false gods so is our current Bolivian president who does not hide his hostility to Christianity and his devotion to the old gods. Just as Daniel and friends were called upon to live faithfully in a pagan atmosphere, we also must be salt and light in the face of growing reliance on the old gods. This was followed by a discussion about how we can impact society in a variety of ways and we were encouraged to think of positive practical steps that we can take to impact our world. The afternoon session was a presentation of seven models for the church in ways that it can best be the church. The evening session was an introduction to this year's overall theme for the denomination. The day ended with a presentation of the children's outreach and education program that has been started in La Paz and will soon be expanded to include other districts.

It is always good to spend time with the brothers and I am reminded how blessed I am to work here in Bolivia. Please continue to pray for the brothers here, especially the pastors and leaders, who are expected to do so much with very little. Pray that we will indeed find a way to make a
positive impact for Jesus.
